History and Purpose

In 2022, the Newport Buffalo Foundation was recognized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) as a private foundation. Through this recognition as well as inclusion in other approved programs, the foundation is well-positioned to offer a tax-advantageous investment vehicle to both individuals and corporate entities. 

We are Newport School District (Newport SD) parents, alumni, retirees, employees, and community members who are voluntarily dedicated to strengthening and improving programs for our students. The purpose of the Newport Buffalo Foundation is to strengthen the educational, cultural, and athletic programs for current and future students, staff, and community members of the Newport area. This will be accomplished through direct support to Newport SD innovative education programs that may not be within the District’s core offerings as well as competitive grants. These priorities will be funded through charitable donations and fundraising events. The Buffalo Foundation is recognized as an Educational Improvement Organization (EIO) through the Commonwealth’s Department of Community and Economic Development’s (DCED) Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program. The foundation receives contributions from organizations approved through the DCED’s tax credit incentive program.
